At their July 15 meeting, Orange County Commissioners will consider repealing the voter-approved Rural Boundary, rescinding Vision 2050 and the Orange Code, and abandoning updates to the Lake Pickett North planning study. These decisions are being driven by a legal challenge from a single developer invoking a vague, untested state law (SB 180).
Make no mistake: this is not just a threat to local planning--it's a threat to local democracy. The Rural Boundary was approved by 73% of voters, and Vision 2050 is the result of more than a decade of community input. Nothing in these policies has been found to violate state law.
Now is the time to act. Urge your commissioners to stand firm, reject the pressure, and protect the smart planning frameworks that reflect the will of Orange County residents.
