Tell Congress to Support NIH Funding for FY 2025 and FY 2026
ASTCT has sent a letter to congressional leaders asking for their support in maintaining the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding for fiscal year (FY) 2025 and for FY 2026.
We urge you to take action. Take action now and send a communication to your state leaders telling them that you do not support the proposed budget cuts to NIH.
As stated in the letter, ASTCT members and the patients we treat rely heavily on NIH funding for critical care. The impact of proposed funding cuts would be devastating for our community and will cause research programs to shut down and stop critical clinical trials which are often the only treatment options for patients with high-risk or treatment-refractory diseases. Impacts outlined in the letter include:
Innovation improves survival rates and cures patients.
Clinical trials enable lifesaving cures.
Indirect costs are an inextricable component of research.
Economic impacts will be far reaching.
In addition, there are well-established downstream financial impacts to the U.S. and individual states' economies of slashing NIH funding. Based on recent economic reviews, the impact of NIH funded research has generated positive economic activity.
ASTCT remains steadfast in our mission to strongly advocate for policies that support bone marrow and stem cell transplant and cellular therapy research and patient access. We continue to support efforts that drive science and bring powerful, curative medical therapies to all patients in need.
We will continue to communicate with our community about significant actions or decisions that could impact our members and patients and share ways you can help advocate to your state leaders.
We urge you to reach out to Congress and join us in the legislative process. Your voice matters.
