Support SB 1545 - Corner Crossing is not a Crime

Oregon state lawmakers are advancing a bipartisan bill to address a long-standing public lands access issue: corner crossing--stepping precisely from public land to public land without trespassing on private property.

Senate Bill 1545 reflects what BHA has long maintained: corner crossing is not a crime, and respect for private property goes hand-in-hand with responsible access to public lands. We applaud Senators McLane (R-Powell Butte) and Broadman (D-Bend) along with the Oregon Hunters Association for their work to advance this important issue.

This legislation does not create new access rights or diminish private property protections. Instead, it provides statutory clarity that reduces uncertainty and limits liability for both landowners and public land users. By doing so, SB 1545 helps prevent unnecessary conflict while ensuring hunters, anglers, and other recreationists can lawfully access public lands.

Urge your state elected officials to support SB 1545 and commonsense public lands access in Oregon.
