Pause Massive Data Centers Until New York Has a Plan

Artificial intelligence and cloud computing are driving a rapid expansion of massive data centers across New York. These facilities consume enormous amounts of electricity and water, yet New York has not fully assessed their impacts on energy costs, water resources, communities, or climate goals. The Data Center Moratorium Act (A.11560/S.10642) would place a one-year pause on new large-scale data centers while state agencies conduct a comprehensive environmental review and develop safeguards to protect New Yorkers.
