Take Action! Help to Ensure CDBG is Fully Funded in FY24!

We need your help to ensure that the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is fully funded in FY24. The program is at risk of significant cuts, particularly in the House, due to the rigid funding caps placed on non-defense domestic programs. The House Appropriations Committee cut the FY24 budget allocation for the Transportation-HUD-Independent Agencies (THUD) Appropriations Subcommittee by nearly $23 billion - 26% from last year's level.

Please reach out to your members of Congress immediately to urge them to fully fund the CDBG program in FY24. The House and Senate THUD appropriations subcommittees will mark-up their FY24 spending bills in the coming days. While outreach to all members of Congress is needed, if any of your Congressional members sit on the House or Senate THUD appropriations subcommittees, we urge you to contact them today!

Here is the letter you will be sending them:

Support the CDBG Program in FY24

I write to urge your support of the critically important Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program in the FY24 Transportation, HUD and Related Agencies appropriations bill.

The CDBG program reaches every State, Territory, and Congressional district. Congress has shown support for increasing funding for the program as evidenced by the FY24 CDBG Dear Colleague letters which garnered widespread support in both chambers. CDBG was cut by $150 million in FY22. Inflation and rising interest rates have caused program operating and program delivery costs to increase. The program cannot withstand a cut and is needed more than ever at the local level to stimulate economic development, support affordable housing, and meet urgent community development needs. Please contact the THUD appropriations leadership requesting that no cut be made to the program in FY24.

Thank you for your consideration and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
