The Impact of FY27 Flat Funding on Wisconsin Families

The President's FY27 budget proposal includes cuts and eliminations to critical early learning programs, putting children and families across Wisconsin at risk of losing essential supports.

What's at Stake: The President's FY2027 budget proposal does not include an increase for the federal Head Start program. For Wisconsin, flat funding is effectively a cut as programs struggle with the rising costs of facilities, food, and utilities.

This flat funding, in tandem with the proposed elimination of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) and Preschool Development Grant Birth-5 (PDG B-5), would significantly impact the operability of Wisconsin's Head Start programs. In many of our rural communities, where Head Start is often the only available option for families, these cuts would result in closed classrooms and fewer children served.

This proposal doesn't automatically close programs, but it does put the decision regarding Head Start's future in Congress's hands. Congress must act. As lawmakers negotiate the FY27 budget, they need to hear from you.
